High Fliers - General Information
High Fliers are an effective, safe and user friendly way to operate mist nets at any height up to 7.8 metres.
Whether you use them to catch birds or bats, how many times have you seen most of your potential catch flying above your highest mist net? With a High Flier system from Third Wheel you can operate one, two or even three mist nets from ground level all the way up to 8 metres.
High Fliers support mist nets at height safely, with no risk of sagging and with a pulley system to lower the net, one shelf at a time, to a comfortable height for extraction. The system is light to carry and easy to erect and, with a little practice, two people can erect a set in twenty minutes. Each set comes with full instructions, a carrying bag and coloured guy ropes to suit your subject – dark green for birds and reflective high-vis light green or yellow for bats. High Fliers can be left set up for prolonged periods, removing the nets but leaving the poles ready to clip on your nets in a matter of minutes.
We supply High Fliers in one-, two- or three-net options. We can also modify the design to suit your specific needs, including custom built super-high systems for permanent or semi-permanent locations.

Any normal mist net can be clipped onto the sliding net carriers.
Note the shock cord link which automatically tensions each shelf string correctly. The shock cord also compensates for any slight differences in net lengths.

Guy ropes clip on securely and quickly. In fact all the bits of cord clip on or together, which means you don't need a degree in knot tying to use the system.
High Flier poles are 30mm diameter aluminium, making the whole system relatively light and easy to carry, even some distance over rough terrain.
The lightweight poles are, by their nature, quite flexible but a combination of guy ropes and the shock cord links allow even a triple net system to be used effectively without any of the nets sagging.

The system is supplied in a sturdy bag and, at around 13 kilos, is easy to carry to your netting site. A smaller bag within the larger bag contains all the cords and the pegs, making the whole thing self contained.
The system, in its bag, is just over 1.7 metres in length. This means it will fit in most cars, with the possible exception of some micro-cars.

On secure sites, a High Flier system can be installed with an optional top guy between the poles, allowing the poles to be left in situ indefinitely. Once installed, the nets can be taken off or put back on to the net carriers very quickly.
By deploying one, two or three nets according to your needs, High Fliers can improve your catch in some situations while bringing the previously uncatchable within reach in others.
