Folding standard Potter with top-hinged door
Our first Potter trap was an improved version of Mrs Potter's original. This has now been further improved and so our standard size single Potter is currently in its fourth version.
Measuring 9" x 9" x 15", this trap is suitable for any bird up to Collared Dove size. In the USA this trap has been used for all Jay species as well as Mourning Doves. The trap is also sensitive enough to catch smaller species as light as tits/chickadees.
The standard Potter is available in two versions, one fully assembled with a vertically operating door and the other in flat-pack self-assembly form with a top hinged, inward opening door.
The folding version with the inward opening door is also supplied with a remote control trigger, allowing the ringer/bander to make selective catches by operating the door remotely with a length of string. Alternatively it can be configured to work in the usual way with the door triggered by the bird stepping on the treadle.
The folding version can be sent overseas at reasonable cost and is particularly suited to ringers/banders working in remote locations where carrying fully assembled traps over long distances is out of the question. Folding traps are supplied with assembly instructions and zip ties to assemble them with.
The traps are made of 16g galvanised weldmesh with a green powder coating and both are equipped with a small extraction door at the end to aid extraction of smaller birds.
Potter traps are very simple to use with only two or three moving parts. The doors close under gravity, using no springs. This makes them extremely safe to use as the light doors can't harm any half-caught birds.
