Mason Trap
Our Mason Trap is a re-working of a trap used by Mason in the 1950s.
The Mason is a large trap, measuring 900mm x 500mm x 300mm. It has an entrance tunnel leading from one side of the trap to the other and a system of baffles and fences makes it hard for birds entering the tunnel to find their way out.
There are no moving parts, which makes this an extremely bird-safe trap.
The trap's size means it can safely accommodate a number of birds, with ten or more Starlings or 15+ Buntings being by no means too many.
The Mason is supplied with entrances suitable for Starling or Thrush - sized birds but, by fitting the supplied size restrictors, it can be reconfigured for smaller species such as Buntings, Finches and Pipits
The trap has a small extraction door at one end and comes with an extraction divider which is lowered into the trap through a slot in the roof to restrict your catch (or part of it) to a small space inside the door for ease of extraction.
As is often the case, the Mason is most effective if birds are 'trained' to feed from within it. To enable this, the trap has a very large door at one end which can be tied open to allow the trap to be left out safely for long periods. With the door open and food provided within, birds will learn to feed regularly from inside the trap.
The Mason Trap is, like all our traps, strong and well built. It is made from galvanised weldmesh which is powder coated in green. We've added a carrying handle to make it easy to carry.
