Spring Traps
Our Spring traps are the result of numerous prototypes and extensive testing. The range is small but we intend to add more options when time allows. These traps are both strong and precision made and should withstand years of hard use in challenging environments. Laser cut from 3mm steel, the bodies are virtually unbreakable. The bows are made from galvanised high tensile wire and the springs are galvanised too for longer life. They feature strong knotted netting, with a 10mm mesh size. We've deliberately made the netting quite baggy, which results in birds becoming lightly tangled and enveloped in netting. This usually ensures the bird doesn't struggle; a definite advantage as it is then less likely either to injure itself or to attract predators. Also a bird which is held securely in a fold of net is far easier to extract than one which is moving around under the net.

The basic version of these traps is designed to be pegged down on firm ground using the supplied pegs. The trap can be lightly camouflaged and, with nothing unnatural on the ground in front of the bait, birds are usually not too afraid to approach it.
Another version incorporates a full-square frame with a wire mesh floor. This allows the trap to be used on uneven ground or where it is difficult to use pegs, as the whole thing is self contained and bird secure without needing to be held down. The only down side with this version is the need to camouflage the mesh base, to avoid birds being too wary to approach.

Each trap is supplied with various trigger options as follows:
- A remote control trigger which allows the ringer to trigger the trap using a long piece of cord
- Mealworm clips which can hold up to three live mealworms. These are made from modified hair grips which means that any losses are easily replaced
- A tripwire option using thin cord attached to the hair grip. This can be set over a small patch of bait, or even tied to a piece of bait.
The basic version is presently available in two sizes; 300mm and 450mm. The 300mm trap is suitable only for small birds. If you are expecting anything larger than a pipit or sparrow you should consider the larger trap to reduce the risk of a bird being hit by the fast moving bow. The 450mm version is suitable for birds up to the size of a blackbird or song thrush. Larger traps are in development, with a 600mm version expected in early 2024.
